Exploring Phylogenetic Relationships between Hundreds of Plant Fatty Acids Synthesized by Thousands of Plants. more details ...
Abstract The seeds of Jatropha curcas L. were collected from 6 different locations in Southwest China and their biological characteristics were studied. The physicochemical characteristics and fatty acid composition of the seed oil were also analyzed. The results showed that the hundred-seed-weight ranged from 41.80 g to 71.39 g, the kernel weight of seed from 60.02 to 81.43, the oil content from 51.76 to 57.93 in kernel and from 31.07 to 47.17 in whole seed, and the total unsaturated fatty acid from 74.89 to 79.68 of all seed samples. The seed produced from Yongsheng was found the best, and its kernel weight was 81.43, with oil from kernel 57.93 and oil from whole seed 47.17,and total unsaturated fatty acid 79.68 . The seeds from Panzhihua and Ningnan were also good. Among all the seed samples (acid value ranged from 0.81 to 9.46 ), the acid value of the seeds from Shuangbai and Luodian was the lowest, that was, 0.81. Variance analysis was done for the data of the seed and oil of J. curcas. The results indicated that there were differences in the biological characteristics of J. curcas seeds, and the physicochemical characteristics and fatty acid composition of its seed oil in different locations.
