As a new germplasm,Salvia hispanica L.was introduced to Hunan for the first time in 2006.After detoxification by tissue culture, the nontoxic seeds were harvested.Salvia hispanica L.could pass whole growth period in Hunan by continuous acclimatization from 2007 to 2009.Compositions and contents of Fatty Acid from seeds and vegetative organs were tested as per GB/T 17377—1998.The results showed:Salvia hispanica L.seeds harvested in 2008 and 2009,contained 195.39 g/kg linolenic acid in average, which occupied more than 60% in the content of total lipids.Compared with original seeds,it was obvious that there was no significant difference.Meanwhile,it appeared that this new germplasm could be thought as one potential green-food in future. In addition, studies presented that dry matter of vegetative organs contained 6.38 g/kg linolenic acid.In other words, this variety also could be cultivated as one new-type animal food in order to obtain abundant DHA.
