Abstract The use of petroleum ether by Soxhlet get Portulaca oleracea seed oil. The extracted yield of Portulaca oleracea seed oil was 16.8%±0.13%. Fatty acids compositions were determined from Portulaca oleracea seed oil by saponification,methylation and GC-MS. The results indicated that the oil from Portulaca oleracea seed was composed of 7 fatty acids. The results of GC-MS and area normalization method showed that the Portulaca oleracea seed oil mainly contained Palmitic acid(12.00%±0.60%),Linolenic acid(82.35%±0.64%),Stearic acid(3.94%±0.10%),11-Eicosenoic acid(0.21%),Eicosanoic acid(0.74%±0.05%),Behenic acid(0.56%±0.03%),Lignoceric acid(0.31%±0.03%). While unsaturated fatty acids composition(82.56%±0.64%) from Portulaca oleracea seed oil were mainly composed of linolenoic acid. Experimental results indicated that the Portulaca oleracea seed oil was a kind of functional oil which had abundant n-3 unsaturated fatty acids,with high nutritional value and phanmcotherapy efficacy.
