Abstract Gas chromatography mass spectrometric(GC-MS) method was used to analyze the composition of the fatty acids in the seed oil of Momordica.charantia var.abreviata Ser.treated by the derivatization reagent 2-amino-2-methylpropanol(AMP).Five fatty acids were identified as follows: palmitic acid 1.65%,stearic acid 31.78%,oleic acid 5.52%,linoleic acid 3.86%,conjugated trienoic fatty acid with 18 carbons 55.13%,unidentified composition 2.07%.The fatty acids with 18 carbons were the main composition in the seed oil of Momordica.charantia var. abreviata Ser.,unsaturated fatty acids with 18 carbons were 64.51%.AMP derivatization-GC-MS can be used to determine the exact location of double bonds in unsaturated fatty acids,and separate three cis and trans isomers of conjugated trienoic fatty acids in the seed oil of Momordica.charantia var.abreviata Ser.
