Exploring Phylogenetic Relationships between Hundreds of Plant Fatty Acids Synthesized by Thousands of Plants.

The purpose was to discuss the relationship between the contents and kinds of fatty acids and low temperature tolerance in cucumber seeds.[Method] Fifteen cucumber materials from different sources were treated for 14 d with low temperature of 12 ℃ in day and 8 ℃ in night and illumination for 7.5 h per day.The cold tolerances of cucumber were graded,the cold tolerance indices were calculated out and the oil content,fatty acid composition and content in the tested cucumber seeds were determined.[Result] The fatty acids in cucumber seeds mainly included 6 kinds of palmitic acid(16∶0),palmitoleic acid(16∶1),stearic acid(18∶0),oleic acid(18∶1),linoleic acid(18∶2) and linolenic acid(18∶3),etc.It was found through correlation analysis on them and the cold tolerance index that the cold tolerance index reached significantly positive correlation with the contents of linoleic acid and linolenic acid,oil content in seed,IUFA(index of unsaturated fatty acid),had very small correlation coefficient with the contents of palmitic acid,palmitoleic acid and stearic acid and the contents of oleic acid in various materials were basically same.[Conclusion] The linoleic acid and linolenic acid,oil content in seed and IUFA of cucumber had close relationship with its low temperature tolerance.
