Abstract The fatty acids composition and content in the seeds of Trichosanthes kirilowii from five different areas were determined by gas chromatography.The results showed that the lipid content of T.kirilowii seeds from different areas were higher than 37.5% and sample from Shaanxi Fuping had the highest content(41.6%),followed by the sample from Sichuan Hui Chuntang Pharmaceutical Base.The unsaturated fatty acids and essential fatty acids content of these samples all reached up to 87%.The unsaturated fatty acids content of sample from Sichuan Langzhong was the highest(89.62%).The content of linoleic acid of sample from Suining(48.08%) was higher than that of other samples.It was suggested that T.kirilowii seed contained abundent lipid,especially unsaturated fatty acids and essential fatty acids,the further processing for T.kirilowii seed would greatly enhance its value.
