Exploring Phylogenetic Relationships between Hundreds of Plant Fatty Acids Synthesized by Thousands of Plants.
more details ...
Seed oils from different families were analyzed using thin-layer and gas-liq. chromatog. techniques. All the seed oils contained palmitic and stearic acids (20-40%) and oleic and linoleic acids (58-74%). Linolenic acid was found only in 2 seeds oils, Lawsonia alba (4%) and Clitoria ternatea (8.5%). Hygrophylla spinosa seed oil, contg. oleic acid (69%), is very unusual as it is a linoleic acid free oil.
