Study of Indian seed oils. X. Component fatty acids of some lesser-known seed oils

Abstract

The fatty acid compns. are detd. for the seed oils of Ligusticum alatum, Lepidium latifolium, Thlaspe cardiospermum, Zanthoxylum alatum, Sarcococa pruniformis, and Sylibium marianum. The petroselinic acid (42.1%) in L. alatum comprises 77% of the total monoenoic acids. The oil of Z. alatum differs from other seed oils of Rutaceae in having 2.7% eicosenoic acid content, higher proportion of palmitic acid, and no stearic acid. The occurrence of 3.8% eicosadienoic acid in T. cardiospermum is unique. The presence of 3.45% arachidic acid in S. merianum is unusually high for the seed oils of Compositae
