Abstract Physical and chemical characteristics of Citrullus lanatus (Thumb) Mansfeld and Lagenaria siceraria (Molina) Standley oils have been found and compared. The two oils are practically the same. An edible oil can be obtained by mixing these two oils because of the fact that their physical and chemical characteristics are identical and especially because of their high content in oleic and linoleic acids as shown by methylesters gas chromatography. The seeds also reveal a high content in proteins (57%).
