Abstract Composition of the oil of G. speciosa (pupunha) fruit [peach palm] which is eaten by the local population was determined. Tabulated data show that it resembles palm oil. It was extracted from the dried fruit pulp with a yield of 24.2%, and contained 44.8% palmitic, 6.5% palmitoleic, 41.0% oleic and 4.8% linoleic acid. Its ease of extraction and physico-chemical properties (not specified) suggest potential food uses.
