Exploring Phylogenetic Relationships between Hundreds of Plant Fatty Acids Synthesized by Thousands of Plants. more details ...
Abstract An oil was obtained from crushed Scotch thistle seeds, from which in turn were extracted homologous mixtures of normal C33 - C25 paraffins, ethyl esters of C34 - C30 fatty acids and sterols with MW 414, 412 and 400. Two groups of hydrocarbons were discovered (C17 and C18), each consisting of 4 components, which differ according to the number of ethylene bonds (0 to 3). The simultaneous presence of the pentacyclic alcohols alpha-amyrin and lupeol with their natural acetates was established. C31:0 and C29:0 fatty acids were detected for the 1st time as natural compounds. Ethyl esters of fatty acids isolated from the seed oil of higher plants for the 1st time are given.
