High-linoleic oils from five species of japanese plants

Abstract

Oils extracted from the achenes of Boehmeria longispica Steud., B. spicata Thunb., and B. nivea Gaud. var. concolor Makino (Urti-caceae) and those from the seeds of Tricyrtis affinis Makino and Hosta longipes Matsum. (Liliaceae) were surveyed for their charac-teristics and fatty acid composition. All the oils contained linoleic acid in high levels (80.2-83.5%) as determined by gas liquid chro-matography of the derived methyl esters. © 1981 American Oil Chemists.
