Abstract A new oxylipin, 15(R)-hydroxy-9(Z),12(Z)-octadecadienoic acid (15(R)- hydroxylinoleic acid), was isolated from oat seeds. Its structure was determined by chemical and spectroscopic methods. Oat seeds contained 0.6- 0.7 mg g-1 of the new compound in esterified form. The amounts found in seeds of harley, rye and wheat, however, were less than 1 μg g-1.
