Abstract GLC analysis was used to detect adulteration of sweet almond oil by peach or apricot kernel oil. Tabulated results showed that 25 or 50% substitution could increase the linoleic acid content to >20% (the max. detected in almond oil), but 1 sample of peach kernel oil contained only 12.3% linoleic acid. A more secure detection was achieved by sterol analysis: >85% beta-sitosterol and <10% Delta 5-avenasterol were certain indices of adulteration (concn. in sweet almond oil 82.9 and 11.4% resp.).
