Exploring Phylogenetic Relationships between Hundreds of Plant Fatty Acids Synthesized by Thousands of Plants. more details ...
Abstract Seed oils from 6 Indian plant spp., belonging to different, and less familiar, botanical families, were studied for oil, protein, and fatty acid composition. Oils from 3 spp., Canavalia gladiata, Passiflora edulis (passion fruit), and Zanthoxylum rhetsa, were found to be rich in the conventional unsaturated acids, and merit attention for utilization as minor seed oils. The other 3 spp., Linum mysorensis, Bixa orellana, and Terminalia catappa, were rich in saturated fatty acids.
