Exploring Phylogenetic Relationships between Hundreds of Plant Fatty Acids Synthesized by Thousands of Plants. more details ...
Abstract Litchi and longan seeds harvested on the island of Reunion are poor in lipids (0.9 and 1.7% respectively). The fatty acids in these two oils are identical, but they occur in different proportions. Dihydrosterculic acid and cis 7,8-methylenehexadecanoic acid are found in substantial quantities. The methyl esters of fatty acids can be fractionated by HPLC, which enables more advanced analysis of cyclopropanic esters by H-1 and C-13 NMR. The data obtained can be used to identify these rare acids in crude oil.
