Effect of location on the fatty acid composition of niger seed oil

Abstract

Samples of niger ( Guizotia abyssinica) from 8 locations in India were analysed for their fatty acid composition. The oleic:linoleic ratio varied widely depending on the location. The ratio was low (0.1-0.46) when the mean maximum temperature was <30 °C and minimum temperature <20 °C. At higher temperatures the ratio was between 0.54 and 1.1.
