Reinvestigation of seed oil of Sapindus saponaria for its cyanolipid content

Abstract

S. saponaria seed oil needed reinvestigation due to conflicting results from NMR and TLC. The cyanolipid content of S. saponaria was isolated and characterized by chromatographic, spectroscopic and chemical methods. The seed oil was found to contain 15% of the fatty acid diester of 1-cyano-2-hydroxymethylprop-1-ene-3-ol.
