The examination of the component fatty acids of the oil from the seeds of Dipteracantus prostratus

Abstract

The seeds extd. with petrol. ether gave 17.1% light, greenish yellow oil; d21 = 0.9283; n21D = 1.4855; sapon. no. 191.3; I no. 117.2; acid no. 1.7; unsaponifiable matter 1.5%; R-M. no. nil. The oil contains palmitic 15.48, stearic 7.17, oleic 33.50 and linoleic acid 43.85%. The unsaponifiable matter was identified as β-sitosterol.
