Exploring Phylogenetic Relationships between Hundreds of Plant Fatty Acids Synthesized by Thousands of Plants. more details ...
Abstract Tobacco seeds of variety N.P.S. 219 contained 32.3% oil (petroleum ether extn.) with acid no. 5.4, sapon. no. 201.8, I no. (Hanus) 122.5, acetyl no. 2.24, OH value 2.25, unsaponifiables 2.0%, total fatty acids 91.5%, d32.54 0.8890, n23D 1.4845, H2O-insol. acids 91.3%, and H2O-sol. acids 0.065%. Fatty acids, after sapon., were complexed with urea in MeOH and fractionally crystd. The individual polyunsatd. acids were detd. by alkali isomerization and UV spectroscopy, satd. acids by Bertram oxidn., and oleic acid by difference. The fatty acid compn. found was: parinaric 0.1, linolenic 3.6, linoleic 68.8, satd. 16.3, and oleic 11.2%
