In the total fatty acids of Aquilegia vulgaris about 60% of a trans-unsaturated fatty acid triene were found that was identified as trans-5, cis-9, cis-12-octadecatrienoic acid. The seed oils of other Ranunculaceae (R. asiaticus, Adenois aestivalis and Trollius) did not contain this acid.
