Abstract B. racemosa Seeds were extd. with petroleum ether (b.p. 60-80°). Gas chromatog., urea adduct formation, TLC, and UV spectra revealed the presence of lauric 0.1, myristic 0.1, palmitic 11.0, stearic 3.6, oleic 20.6, and linoleic acid 64.6%. B. racemosa (Ashta in Hindi and Anupushpaka in Sanskrit) bark and leaves are used in skin diseases, and a decoction of leaves is used to treat headache in malarial fever. The gum is used medicinally in South India
