Exploring Phylogenetic Relationships between Hundreds of Plant Fatty Acids Synthesized by Thousands of Plants. more details ...
Abstract The fatty acid compns. of oils from a black and a brown variety of Indian sesame seed were studied by gas-liq. chromatog. on 10% Apiezon L/Diatoport W and 10% Lac-446 (diethylene glycol adipate polyester)/Diatoport W columns. A H flame ionization detector and N carrier gas were used. The oil was Soxhlet-extd. for 24 hrs. from the seeds with petroleum (b. 40-60°). The fatty acids in the oils were interesterified according to the procedure of F. E. Luddy, et al. (1960) and the mixed Me esters were purified by silicic acid column chromatog. The following compns. were detd. on the 10% Lac column [fatty acid (C no.: double bonds), wt. % from black sesame, wt. % from brown sesame, given]: 14:0, 0.02, 0.02; 16:0, 14.55, 14.98; 16:1, 0.34, 0.30; 17:0, 0.10, 0.10; 17:1, 0.04, 0.05; 18:0, 6.45, 5.45; 18:1, 42.88, 40.80; 18:2, 33.33, 34.69; 18:3, 0.43, 0.95; 20:0, 1.00, 2.06; 20:1, 0.30, 0.37; 22:0, 0.30, 0.14; 24:0, 0.26, 0.09
