Component fatty acids of Swietenia macrophylla seed fats

Abstract

The seed contains 50% of clear yellow oil, nD40 1.4692, sapon. equiv. 292.4, I no. (Wijs) 109.7, free fatty acids (as oleic) 0.6%, and unsapond. 1.1%. The fatty acids, resolved into 3 fractions by low-temp. crystn., consist of palmitic 12.50, stearic 16.42, arachidic 0.56, oleic 25.30, linoleic 33.87, and linolenic 11.35%.
