Exploring Phylogenetic Relationships between Hundreds of Plant Fatty Acids Synthesized by Thousands of Plants.

The proximate anal. on the seeds of F. limonia revealed the presence of moisture (5.896%), ash (6.822%), acid insol. ash (1.3202%), sulfated ash (4.588%), alc. sol. extractive (6.2810%), and water sol. extractive (10.1022%). The powd. seeds were treated with various nonpolar to polar solvents and the extractives tested for the common plant constituents. Fixed oil (12.5%) was extd. from the seeds and crude protein (12%) and carbohydrates (0.8250% as glucose) from the defatted seeds. The fixed oil was found to contain palmitic (15.2%), oleic (43.4%), linoleic (20.4%), and linolenic (20.6%) acid besides traces of palmitoleic and stearic acid. The unsaponifiable matter (0.8% of the total oil) contained β-sitosterol, β-amyrin, lupeol, and stigmasterol.
